Elderly and Befriending
Like many parishes these days we have a fairly large proportion of elderly people, both in the church and in the community.
Through our annual All Souls Service, Older Persons Christmas Tea Afternoon, bereavement visiting and keeping in touch with those who are sick, either at home or in hospital, it became apparent that a Befriending Scheme was needed within the parish.
Following a successful training morning in January 2007 a small group of befrienders now offer their time to this important ministry.
This can be either on a short-term basis, usually through illness, or long-term because the person has now become housebound and fairly isolated.
We also offer Home Communion to people who in the past used to go to church but are now elderly and housebound and are unable to get there anymore. As well as the clergy, a small group of lay people have been licensed by the Bishop to carry out this ministry.
